Investments
The investments form can be used to add one-time capital investments to the case. Investments differ from expenses because unlike expenses, which recur, investments are one-time costs such as Drilling Costs, Completion Costs, Capital and Abandonment costs. They are qualified by scenario. You can view or change the current investment qualifier by going to the scenario hierarchy. You can add investment categories, choose how they report and assign depreciation models in the database settings.
You can choose to set an investment to a hard coded date or a linked date. Some choices for linked dates would be the date of first production, economic start, ECL, etc. You can also choose to add an offset (positive or negative) from any of the linked dates. Any investment that has a linked date to the Economic Limit, with either a negative or positive offset, will not affect ownership reversions. Any investment that occurs before a case economic start date will not appear in the cash flow or affect ownership reversions. However, its depreciation will be available for other calculations.
To Add or Edit Investments on the Current Case

Adding New Investments
To add an investment to a single case
1.Click on the
icon next to Investments at the top.
2.Adjust the settings:
- Description – enter a description of the investment – this can be any text you would like to help identify what the investment is used for.
- Category – choose a category for this investment – investment categories are set up in Database settings – the category chosen here will affect how the investment is depreciated.
- Date – choose the date this investment occurs – the date the investment occurs can be a specific chosen date or a Linked Date – linked dates are encouraged for investments.
- Tangible Value – enter the amount for the tangible portion of the investment in M$.
- Intangible Value – enter the amount for the intangible portion of the investment in M$.
- In Service – enter the number of days from the investment date to the date that the investment is “in service” and should begin to depreciate.
- Custom Working Interest – for most investments, the net amount will be calculated using the working interest (WI) on the case. If this investment has a custom interest that differs from the WI, enter it here. For example, if your WI is 50%, but you are responsible for paying 100% of this cost, enter 1.00 in this field. See more on custom WI in the Ownership section.
Note: The custom interest is qualified or stored to both the investment and ownership qualifier. If you were to change the ownership qualifier, you would lose the custom interest that you entered and would have to re-enter it with the new ownership qualifier.
•Investment multiplier – this can be used to quickly adjust the investment by a certain multiplier. A value of 1 or 0 will result in no multiplication of the investment.
•Investment Inflation – Add the ability to inflate investments using a percent escalation model (add escalation models are not applicable) on a case-specific basis. The case should be able to inherit a scenario inflation model from scenario settings or specify a case-specific or no model. Compounding of the inflation model starts on the later of case start date or the escalation deck start date and does not reset for any reason. Otherwise, the same computation as for percent escalation is used.
